There is always a first love that haunts us, that bewitches us without knowing how, as if fallen into it’s trap , we could not get up anymore . The love for Billie Holiday is like that; immediate and without hope of return. Her voice , a sweet and bitter promise at the same time, runs through us us and leaves us there, on the side of an inexplicable emotion : a bright sadness , which makes the pain more bearable because we dare to face it and even dance it. This same bright sadness is to be found in the voice of Elina Duni . Steeped in her Balkan culture that she blends since years to jazz, Elina revisits some Lady Day songs together with pianist Jean- Paul Brodbeck. Together they create a space where music becomes the story of a life , of maybe all the lives broken by a too great desire to live.
